Carriage Mounted Spreader Bars - As the name implies, this particular mast has 3 parts. The external part mounts securely to the lift truck. The next middle section telescopes in the outer section. The innermost section telescopes within the middle part. The internal section and the middle section both raise when the lift cylinders extend. Once again in this model, the fork carriage rides within the inner section. The 3 stage mast provides a shorter lowered height compared to the 2 stage mast. The common usage of the 3 stage mast is in areas like doorways where overhead clearances are limited. This particular mast is usually outfitted with a center cylinder so as to let the fork carriage elevate a few distance before the mast parts start lengthening.
There are two main parts in a 2 Stage Mast. The outer part of the mast is mounted to the lift vehicle. The internal section sits inside the outer section and raises as the cylinders lengthen. The fork carriage is positioned in the inner part. This mast type has a taller lowered height compared to an equivalent lift height quad mast or 3 stage mast.
