Seat Belt for Forklift - Explained in the Regulation guidelines are the use of seatbelts and operator restraints on lift trucks. It says that the liability falls on the employers' to make certain that every machinery, piece of equipment and tool is utilized rightly used according to the instructions of the manufacturer.

Rough Terrain lift trucks need to meet the guidelines of ANSI Standard ASME B56.6-1992 regarding their maintenance, inspection, fabrication, use and design.

Side boom tractors and mobile equipment with a Rollover Protective Structure, or ROPS for short, must include seat belts that satisfy the requirements of the Society of Automotive Engineers, or SAE, Standard J386 JUN93, Operator Restraint System for Off-Road Work Machines. If whichever mobile equipment includes seat belts required by law, the driver and subsequent passengers must make sure they utilize the belts each time the motor vehicle is in motion or engaged in operation because this could cause the machinery to become unbalanced and thus, unsafe.

While operating a lift truck, the seat belt requirements will depend on a number of factors. Contributing factors to this determination may include whether the the lift truck is equipped together with a Rollover Protective Structure, the type of lift truck itself and the year the forklift was actually manufactured. Referring to an operator restraint device, enclosure or system, ANSI Standard ASME B56.1-1993 with regards to powered industrial trucks, is designed to aid the operator in lessening the possibility of entrapment of the head and/or torso between the truck and the ground in the event of a tip over. The system or restraint device may include a seat belt, even if a seat belt is not necessarily a part of such equipment or system.
