Gradall Forklift Parts - The Gradall excavator was the brainchild of two brothers Ray and Koop Ferwerda. The excavator was founded In the 1940's throughout WWII, when there was a scarcity of labourers. The brothers faced the problems of a depleted workforce because of the war. As partners in their Cleveland, Spokane construction business known as Ferwerda-Werba-Ferwerda they lacked the existing workers so as to carry out the delicate job of finishing and grading on their highway projects. The Ferwerda brothers opted to make an equipment which would save their company by making the slope grading task more efficient, less manual and easier.

The initial excavator prototype consisted of a machine with two industrial beams on a rotating platform fixed to a used truck. There was a telescopic cylinder that was used to move the beams back and forth. This allowed the fixed blade at the far end of the beams to push or pull the dirt. Before long enhancing the first design, the brothers built a triangular boom to be able to add more strength. Furthermore, they added a tilt cylinder which let the boom rotate 45 degrees in both directions. A cylinder was positioned at the rear of the boom, powering a long push rod to enable the machinery to be outfitted with either a bucket or a blade attachment.

Gradall introduced in the year 1992, with the introduction of the new XL Series hydraulics, the most ground-breaking adjustment in their machines ever since their creation. This new system of top-of-the-line hydraulics allowed the Gradall excavator to provide high productivity and comparable power to the more conventional excavators. The XL Series put an end to the original Gradall equipment power drawn from low pressure hydraulics and gear pumps. These conventional systems successfully handled finishing work and grading but had a hard time competing for high productivity work.

The new XL Series Gradall excavators proved a remarkable increase in their digging and lifting ability. These versions were made together with a piston pump, high-pressure hydraulics system which showed huge improvements in boom and bucket breakout forces. The XL Series hydraulics system was even developed with a load-sensing capability. Conventional excavators make use of an operator in order to select a working-mode; where the Gradall system can automatically adjust the hydraulic power meant for the task at hand. This makes the operator's general task easier and even saves fuel at the same time.

Once the new XL Series hydraulics became available in the market, Gradall was thrust into the extremely competitive industrial machine market that are meant to deal with excavating, demolition, pavement removal and other industrial work. The introduction of the new telescoping boom helped to further enhance the excavator's marketability. The telescoping boom gives the excavator the ability to better position attachments and to work in low overhead areas.
